It was found that if the travel nurse had a higher patient assignment, the risk of burnout was higher than those who had fewer patients in their care (Connelly, 2011). The sixth clinical study that was reviewed looked at burnout and quality of care in regard to travel nurses. It was found that while nurses do not like to float, they will as long as there are measures put into place that will make floating comfortable (Lafontant, 2016). The fifth reviewed study was a qualitative study that looked at how nurses felt about floating. In another clinical study the conclusion was that less than 15% of travel nurses should be used to safely deliver patient care (Bae, 2010). Of the six studies reviewed, three of the studies states there is no evidence that suggests there is decreased patient safety among travel nurses and float nurses (Aiken, Freund, Noyes, & Xue, 2012 Faller, 2017 Larson et al., 2012). A total of six research articles were carefully critiqued.
